제라늄 Geranum 'blushing turtle'

 

아파트단지 주변 작은 공원에 심어 놓은 쥐손이풀속의 원예종이 꽃을 피우기 시작했다. 산쥐손이와 비슷한 느낌인데 식물체와 꽃이 더 크고 튼튼해 보인다.

 

이름은 'blushing turtle'. 늦봄에서 초여름까지 개화를 시작하여 여름과 가을까지 가벼운 꽃이 계속 핀다고 한다. 1999년 Geranium sanguineum과 Geranium x oxonianum 'Julie Brennan' 또는 Geranium asphodeloides를 교차 수분하여 탄생한 종이라고 한다.

● 제라늄 '블러싱터틀' Geranum 'blushing turtle' ↘  쥐손이풀과 쥐손이풀속의 여러해살이풀 

잎은 단풍잎처럼 깊게 갈라져 거북 모양이 되며 짙은 녹색으로 천천히 퍼져 자란다. 꽃이 피면 높이 45~60cm, 너비 60~90cm까지 자란다. 꽃은 지름 2~5cm로 꽃잎은 5개이며 홍색이며, 짙은 적자색 맥이 있다. 꽃은 늦봄(6월)에 풍성하게 피고, 여름부터 가을까지 산발적으로 다시 피어난다.

여름철 더위로 꽃이 꺾이면 식물을 잘라내어 새싹을 돋우고 모양을 다듬거나 늦여름~초가을에 다시 꽃을 피울 수 있다. 서늘한 북부 기후에서는 여름부터 가을까지 꽃이 잘 핀다. 옆줄기는 번식을 조절하기 위해 언제든지 다듬을 수 있다. <정보 종합>
