좀작살나무 Callicarpa dichotoma, 새싹

 

잎이 지고 열매조차 다 떨어져나간 이른 봄의 좀작살나무 수형은 특이하다. 마주난 가지는 작살의 위엄은 다 사라지고 실처럼 가는 가지가 휘어져 늘어진 모습은 조팝나무 가지보다도 더 연약해 보인다.

 

실 같은 가지에서 힘차게 돋는 강철 같은 새잎, 경이로운 모습에 끌려 담아 본다.

● 좀작살나무 Callicarpa dichotoma | purple beautyberry, early amethyst  ↘  목련강 국화아강 꿀풀목 마편초과 작살나무속 관목 

높이 1~1.5m이다. 줄기는 가지를 치며, 진한 보라색을 띠고, 별 모양 털이 있다. 잎은 마주나며, 도란형 또는 긴 타원형으로 길이 3~6cm, 폭 1.5~3cm, 양 끝이 뾰족하고, 가장자리의 아래쪽 1/3부터 톱니가 있다. 잎은 두껍고 맥 위에 짧은 털이 있다.

꽃은 5~6월에 피는데 잎겨드랑이 윗부분에서 10~20개가 모여 취산꽃차례로 달린다. 꽃자루 길이 1~1.5cm이다. 꽃받침은 넓은 타원형이다. 꽃부리는 연한 자주색으로 통 모양이며, 털이 없다. 수술은 4개, 암술은 1개, 2갈래로 갈라진다. 열매는 핵과로 10월에 보라색으로 익는다. < >
