회목나무 Euonymus pauciflorus

 

회목나무는 노박덩굴과 화살나무속의 관목으로 제주도를 제외한 전국 높은 산에 드물게 자라는 희귀종이다.

 

초여름에 실 같은 꽃줄기가 잎 주맥을 따라 자라나 그 끝에 네잎클로버 모양의 자줏빛 꽃이 달린 모습이 독특하며, 마주나는 가지에는 사마귀 모양의 돌기가 나 있다.

높이 2m. 줄기가 가늘게 올라오고 모가 나 있으며,털이 없고 사마귀 같은 돌기가 있고 나무껍질은 녹색으로 검은 껍질눈이 돌출되어 있고 동아는 가늘며 길다. 나무껍질은 녹색으로, 검은 껍질눈이 돌출되어 있고, 줄기는 사마귀 같은 돌기가 있다. 잎은 마주나기하며, 긴 달걀형 또는 달걀형의 타원형이고, 점첨두 또는 첨두, 예형이며 길이 3 ~ 6cm로, 뒷면에 잔털이 산생하고, 가장자리에 잔톱니가 있으며, 잎자루는 매우 짧으며 털이 있다.

 

취산꽃차례는 잎겨드랑이에 달리고 1 ~ 3개의 꽃이 잎 표면의 주맥 위에 달린 것처럼 보이고, 꽃은 적갈색으로 6 ~ 7월에 피고, 4수성이며 꽃대는 2cm이다. 열매는 둥글고 지름이 8mm로 4개의 능각이 있으며, 붉은색이고 종자는 붉은색 종의로 싸여 있는 검은색이고 9 ~ 10월에 성숙한다. <국립수목원 식물도감>
