흰대극 Euphorbia esula

 

잎과 모인꽃싸개잎의 형태 변이가 다양하게 나타난다. 잎이 선형이며 대극에 비해 선체가 반달 모양이며 개감수에 비해서 선체의 뿔이 짧은 점으로 구별된다.

 

'흰버들옻'이라고도 부르며, 유독성 식물로 뿌리를 약용한다. 우리나라 남부 도서지방의 햇빛이 강한 해안 모래땅에 나며, 유라시아 대륙에 널리 분포한다.

전체에 털이 없으며, 줄기는 곧게 자라고, 높이 20~50cm, 위에서 가지가 갈라진다. 잎은 어긋나며, 도피침형 또는 주걱형으로 길이 2~3cm, 폭 3~7mm, 가장자리는 밋밋하며, 끝은 둥글거나 뾰족하다. 잎자루는 없다.

꽃은 6~7월에 피는데 줄기 끝에서 꽃줄기가 5개씩 나오고, 다시 2~3번 2갈래로 갈라진 후, 그 끝에 꽃이 배상꽃차례에 달리며, 노란색이다. 모인꽃싸개잎은 노란색, 반원형으로 길이 5~10cm, 폭 7~15mm다. 선체는 노란색, 반달 모양으로 신장형, 양 끝이 바깥쪽으로 돌출한다. 암술은 3개, 암술대 끝은 2갈래로 갈라진다. 열매는 삭과, 삼각상 구형으로 지름 5mm쯤이고, 9월에 익으며, 3갈래로 갈라져서 씨가 튀어나온다. <국립생물자원관 한반도의생물다양성>
