갓 지름이 1~4cm 정도로 포도버섯과의 소형 버섯이다. 표면은 매끄럽고 황갈색으로 성숙하면 갓 가장자리에 선이 나타난다. 완전붙은주름살은 빽빽하고 황색에서 녹슨갈색이 된다. 대는 황갈색으로 섬유상이고 속은 비어 있다.
침엽수 고사목이나 그루터기에 무리지어 발생하는 목재부후성 버섯이다. 독버섯이다.

● 미치광이버섯 Gymnopilus liquiritiae ↘ 주름버섯목 포도버섯과 미치광이버섯속
균모는 지름이 1.5~4cm로 원추형-종 모양에서 둥근 산 모양을 거쳐 거의 편평형으로 된다. 표면은 매끄럽고 오렌지색-황갈색에서 오렌지색-갈색으로 된다. 가장자리에 약간 줄무늬선이 나타난다. 살은 균모와 같은 색이고 쓴맛이 조금 난다. 주름살은 바른 주름살로 황색에서 녹슨 갈색으로 되며 밀생한다.
자루의 길이는 2~5cm, 굵기는 0.2~0.4cm로 위쪽으로 가늘다. 표면은 섬유상이고 녹슨 갈색이며 속은 비어 있다. 포자의 크기는 8.5~10×4.5~6μm로 아몬드형이다. 표면은 미세한 사마귀점으로 덮인다. - 조덕현 <한국의 균류 3>, 2018
