파르로티아 페르시카 Parrotia persica

 

파르로티아 페르시카(Parrotia persica)는 이란 북부 원산의 조록나무과 소교목이다. 높이는 8~10m 정도로 자라고, 잎은 부드러운 녹색이며 가장자리는 물결 모양으로 풍년화의 잎과 아주 닮았다. 가을에 황금색에서 오렌지색과 주홍색으로 변하는 잎이 아름답다.

잎이 나오기 전에 피는 꽃에는 꽃잎이 없으며, 아래로 처진 붉은 수술과 갈색의 잎처럼 생긴 포(苞)가 있다.

Parrotia persica is a highly ornamental tree, native to Iran, which makes a great year round feature with something to offer in every season.

In late winter/early spring, when there is little interest amongst other trees, Parrotia persica produces its flowers on the bare stems. Similar to witchazel but smaller, the pinkish red flowers are borne in abundant clusters. Early to leaf in Spring, the foliage is lustrous and green with a waved edge throughout summer. The autumn brings one of the finest displays to be seen on the nursery, with vibrant hues of yellow, red, orange and purple.

The bark of mature Parrotia trees is also an attractive quality. It is smooth but exfoliates in thin scaly plates (like a plane tree) to reveal cream, yellow and greens patches of colour.
