기대했던 큰솔나리는 아직 봉오리 상태였다. 한낮 기온이 30도를 오르내리는 한여름 날씨였지만 개화가 열흘 정도 늦을 정도 늦어지고 있었다. 중국 이름은 '山丹'(산단)이다.

햇볕이 잘 드는 풀밭에서 다른 잡초들과 함께 자란다. 중국, 몽골, 러시아 극동지역에 분포한다.

● 큰솔나리 Lilium pumilum | coral lily, fine-leaf lily ↘ 백합강 백합목 백합과 백합속 여러해살이풀

줄기는 높이 60㎝이고 곧추서며 가늘고 짧은 털이 있거나 없다. 비늘줄기는 길이 3~5㎝로 백색이며, 긴 타원형이다. 잎은 길이 3~14㎝로 좁은 선형이고 어긋나기하며 다닥다닥 달린다.

꽃은 6~7월에 피며 가지 끝과 원줄기 끝에 3~15개의 꽃이 밑을 향해 달리고 지름 3~4㎝이다. 화피열편은 6개로서 피침형이며 짙은 홍색 바탕에 자주색 반점이 있고 뒤로 강하게 젖혀지며 6개의 수술과 1개의 암술이 길게 밖으로 나오고 꽃밥은 홍색 또는 적색이다. 삭과는 곧추서며 원주상 타원형으로서 길이 2~3㎝, 지름 1.7~2.2㎝이고 8~9월에 익는다. < >

○ 남한 내에서 충청북도 괴산, 제천, 충주를 중심으로 자생지가 알려져 있으나, 최근 20년 이상 자생 사실이 확인되지 못하였다. 펴안도, 함경도 북부지방에 분포한다.

○ '백합(百合)'이라 하여 비늘줄기의 잎과 꽃, 종자를 약용한다. 인경에는 colchicine 등 다종의 alkaloid 및 전분, 단백질, 지방 등이 함유되어 있다. 윤폐지해(潤肺止咳), 청심안신(淸心安神)의 효능이 있다. 폐결핵, 해수담혈(咳垂痰血), 기력이 쇠해 예민해지며 놀라는 병(虛煩驚悸), 각기부종(脚氣浮腫), 피부 물집이 잡히는 병(天疱濕瘡)을 치료한다.

• 솔나리(Lillium cernum) : 원줄기끝에서 몇 개의 짧은 가지가 갈라져 그 끝에서 연분홍 꽃이 아래를 향해 핀다.

• 흰솔나리(Lillium cernum var. candidum) : 꽃잎은 뒤로 젖혀지고 흰색이다. 1개의 수술과 1개의 암술이 있고 꽃밥은 갈색이다.

• 검은솔나리((Lillium cernum var. atropurpureum) : 검은 빛이 도는 홍자색 꽃이 핀다.
